Bridging the Gap...
Received this one in a direct message on Twitter. Asking if I could share the project. The magazine always makes an attempt to feature any requests received, when possible.
Honestly, the title: Choose Your Shoes, can lead you to believe this book is a little boring. Read the Kickstarter project. The author, Jeff Nosanov, definitely gives it an entirely different meaning and direction. Choose Your Shoes is about attempting to show different adult jobs / careers to young children. He uses shoes from different professions as the medium (from illustrations: doctor and astronaut).
I like this concept, because children have to grow up much faster in our modern society. At times, to the point of figuring out what they want to do as an adult at an early age. Example: parents / peers / colleges / etc. can all lead to a young child having to at least have an idea of what profession they want to try in school.
As you scroll down and read more of the project, Mr. Nosanov addresses one problem in our modern world: some children in countries don't have shoes. Therefore, they can not relate to this book or concept. He fully admits this is something the book, unfortunately, cannot address. This point seriously caught my attention. It proves that Mr. Nosanov is completely aware of everyone's situation. It also means he is concerned with ALL children, not just the demographics for the book.
Another aspect that shows Mr. Nosanov is aware of everyone's situation is the Rewards. For only a $5.00 donation you will receive an e-book version. Plus, it shows Mr. Nosanov lives in the modern world where more and more people read digital versions vs. print copies. (Journalist note: I am strictly digital versions). A $15.00 donation and you will receive a softcover version. Honestly, about the right price if you would purchase it. One reward that is definitely different is the $250.00 level: 3d printed shoes. I have yet to see this in any crowdfunding project reviewed. Mr. Nosanov is definitely not afraid to do something different with the book or rewards.
Overall, definitely glad he contacted me. The concept is something different, especially finding something that bridges the gap between young children and adults. Research and personal experience easily went into this book! This project is very highly recommended even if you don't have children. Choose Your Shoes has the potential to become a classic in children's books.
