Board of Health approves emergency regs for COVID-19 vaccination
Carson City, NV — State of Nevada staff who work with vulnerable populations in state-operated, licensed health care settings or state-operated detention facilities will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 under emergency regulations approved in a 4-0 vote today by the Nevada State Board of Health.
Employees, contractors and State employees who transfer to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) or the Department of Corrections (NDOC) will be required to follow the new requirement. Proof of vaccination must be provided by Nov. 1, 2021.
The emergency regulations apply to NDOC employees and to any DHHS employee, contractor or transfer who enter specific institutions for vulnerable populations within the normal scope of their employment as outlined in the regulation.
Newly hired staff for either State agency must receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine prior to their start date and must receive all necessary doses to become fully vaccinated to maintain employment.
Impacted employees who wish to seek a religious or medical exemption to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine must follow the accommodation request information included in the regulation.
The requirement was recommended by Governor Steve Sisolak’s Medical Advisory Team (MAT) after the Governor requested the MAT review vaccination for several specific groups. The emergency regulations under Nevada Administrative Code Chapter 441A will be in effect for 120 days.
Read the approved emergency regulations on the Board of Health web page in the Sept. 10, 2021, meeting agenda.
The COVID-19 vaccine is available for everyone age 12 and older and is free for everyone. Insurance is not required.
