Scouts See Increase in Food Drive during Pandemic
(ALLENTOWN, PA) – Macungie Boy Scout Troop 71 collected 1,000 more items during their annual
Scouting for Food Campaign. Each year, the troop goes door-to-door gathering non-perishable food
items from their local community. Thanks to the pandemic, the Boy Scout troop didn’t know what to
expect, but they received 3,551 items!
It’s an uncertain time for many, and protocol for collecting and counting the food changed slightly to
ensure everyone’s safety. But the scouts could not believe the generosity of the community and the
success of the drive. The troop decided to donate what they collected to the Allentown Rescue Mission
again this year. Trey Wachob, Troop 71 scout and food drive organizer commented, “The troop has
been donating to the Allentown Rescue Mission for years, and it’s such a good cause we didn’t even
think of donating elsewhere.”
The Allentown Rescue Mission thanks the Macungie Boy Scout Troop 71 and everyone who participated
in the drive for supporting the Scouting for Food Campaign, and supporting the men living at the
Allentown Rescue Mission. To help the men during this giving season, please join the Thanks for Giving
Campaign currently in progress. You can drop off urgently needed food and supplies at the Allentown
Rescue Mission on Friday, November 20th from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm or Saturday, November 21st from
10:00 am – 2:00 pm. For a list of additional drop-off sites and most wanted items, please visit
