Accessibility a priority for Get Out The Vaccine initiative
Las Vegas, NV – The Clark County Get Out The Vaccine (GOTVax) initiative is committed to ensuring that all Nevadans have access to COVID-19 vaccine.
GOTVax neighborhood canvassers are able to use accessible equipment such as iPads with a video interpreting app for Deaf American Sign Language users and vaccine clinics can access assistive listening devices for people with hearing loss, magnifier glasses for people with low vision and the phone language line to communicate in a patient’s preferred dialect.
“It is so important for everyone to be comfortable and understand the vaccination process; that is why we are working to connect with organizations across Clark County,” said Matt Starr, Federal Emergency Management Agency Disability Integration Advisor. “Throughout the GOTVax effort it has been my privilege to work with volunteers and staff and meet with community groups to help ensure the vaccination clinics are open and accessible to all.”
Recently GOTVax and Immunize Nevada partnered to host a vaccination clinic with American Sign Language interpreters on site following a meeting with a Las Vegas Deaf organization.
Additionally, with the support of FEMA Region 9 that supports Nevada, Disability Integration Advisors have been assigned to provide training to GOTVax volunteers and support outreach staff working in Vegas neighborhoods.
Transportation support is also available through several partners and information can be found on the county page of NVCOVIDFighter.org.
More than 30 local organizations in Las Vegas that serve hard-to-reach Nevadans who may have disabilities or limited resources have been contacted by GOTVax with accessible information about COVID-19.
GOTVax was launched with the goal of increasing COVID-19 vaccination rates in Southern Nevada. The mission is supported by local volunteers, State and local staff and resources and FEMA.
The COVID-19 vaccine is available for all those 12 years of age and older and is free for everyone. Insurance is not required.
If individuals need further assistance in finding the most convenient vaccination location, an updated site schedule has been added under the Clark County tab at NVCOVIDFighter.org or call the hotline at 800-401-0946
